HIGHLIGHTS
David Freaking Nixon - My boy D-Nix had the game of his life. 14 tackles (a career high) and a sweet interception. He was everywhere. He really brought it on his last game in LES. Way to go David, you've had a great run and it couldn't have ended any better at home. I hope the other linebackers learned something from him on Saturday.Undefeated at home- BYU at home is a lock. That's 3 straight years now we've been undefeated at home.....no easy task. Between all the home games and the away games I've attended, I have not been to a game that BYU has lost in 3 years now. We're spoiled.
Mauxtin Hallie - Max and Austin (Mauxtin) continue to dominate. SDSU coaches: "Whattaya say we single cover the nation's leading receiver while allowing Max Hall time to throw? That should work, right?" Good strategy guys. I also like how Max ran some more again this week. I swear I saw a designed QB draw in there.Forcing Dennis Pitta to look at me - Before the game started I started yelling at Pitta to try to get him to look at my "Pitta da fool" Mr. T t-shirt. I am loud and it was quiet so I know he heard me, but refused to turn around. About 10-15 other players were looking up at the shirt and laughing though and eventually Pitta turned around, took a quick look, an obligatory fist raise, and then turned back around. He probably hates me for ruining his focus. It may not have been a highlight for him, but it was for me.
LOWLIGHTS
Our Run Game - SDSU came into the game with THE worst rushing defense in the entire nation, allowing over 275 yards/game on the ground. We only managed 104 and got stuffed up the middle several times. We should have dominated them.....everyone else does. They are no longer the worst rushing defense in the nation now that they've played us. They're second worst.Dropping in the BCS - We win a blowout and we drop 2 spots in the BCS? Go figure.
Playing SDSU - They're a joke. Can someone please just move them down to FBS and end their misery? You know a team is bad when blowing them out actually hurts your ranking. A bye would have done us more good.
Defense other than Nixon - The D played a little better, but I'm still not convinced at all. They still looked slow and out of position at times, allowing SDSU to put together a few drives. And you gotta remember, it's SDSU. They have the 107th ranked offense.
What am I missing? What were your highlights and lowlights?

I enjoyed Mike Reed's long reception. He has been slowed by his injury but I am glad they called his number to stretch the field on senior day. I think that play alone put Austin in position to get the match-up he needed to get his 8th straight 100 yard game.
I think that in part we didn't run well because Harvey came out in the first half. I think that the coaches realized that we didn't need him to get the win so they gave him the important rest that he needs. We just aren't that deep at tailback, due to Harvey being so dependable this year. I hope he can stay healthy. If he were to get hurt and be out for any amount of time, our hopes lie on Max's right arm.
Another highlight was Ross not backing down from non-blue wearing fans. He had more tact this week, but held true to his morals. "You can wear blue and still be emo."
Dang, I missed the Ross v. Emo dudes confrontation.......but I will have more on those guys (and others) coming later in the week.
Yes, Michael Reed finally had a good game. I thought it was funny that byucougars.com had an article earlier in the season about how Reed is stepping up in a big way this year. He had a good (but not great) year last year and really had done nothing this year even before his injury. Nice to see him finally step up.
Highlights: our back-up RBs can run when given the chance.
Lowlight: our back-up RBs can not hang on to the football when given a chance.
Max Hall really couldn't have played better. Although I still say he consistently throws a little behind the receiver on crossing routes although most of them are catchable.
I know this has been discussed here before, but check this out about Mountain West tie breakers:
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/others/0-2-75/Mountain-West-tiebreakers.html
If there is a 2 or 3 way conference champtionship tie, then the tie breakers serve only as a guide to the bowls and then can still pick who they want.
Highlight - another crotch lunge by Matt Putnam
Lowlight - Chuck Long getting paid what he gets paid (I could go 1-9! Will anyone pay me $750,000ish?)
Highlight: When that chubby dude in front of me told me not to make any more "mother" jokes.
Highlight: Screaming "JT Monaaaay!" and watching Jonathan Tavernari's head pop up, looking for his fans.
Lowlight: The two girls in front of us that got offended at EVERYTHING I said. They even looked back in disgust when I yelled "Check out my LinkedIn profile!"
Lowlight: My own friends drinking Red Bull before the game. How could you guys do that to me?
"A bye would have done us more good." It's sad that by playing SDSU our low computer rankings dropped even lower. (It doesn't help that UW is the only nonvictorious FBS team.)
Yeah, we totally dominated the same team that lost to Cal Poly at the beginning of the year. It was kind of like watching a movie where you know the good guy is going to win in the end. I'm not even sure if I'm being sarcastic anymore. It was a decent, entertaining game, I'm just bitter that we dropped in the BCS standings.
Don't sweat it Eliot (and everyone else who is worried about the drop in BCS standings). BCS standings are only important for teams that actually go to BCS bowls. Otherwise, you can just ignore them.
You are totally right Jim McMahon's Dad. BYU should totally not worry about BCS standings since [insert lame comment about BYU not going to BCS game]. But man that team up north is [insert even lamer comment about how awesome Utah is, oh did I mention you BARELY beat New Mexico?] so you better watch out.
BYU haters need to get some new material.
You are so right, anonymous db. BYU's convincing victories over UNLV and CSU, oh and their "miraculous" win over 0-9 Washington really indicate that the Cougs are a much better team than their ranking would indicate.
Now if only my son could make it into the Hall of Fame there...it's too bad football season doesn't last until Spring Semester, then they couldn't have kicked him out of school before he could get his degree.
