Don't Show Whit the Money

I don't like Kyle Whittingham. That's no secret. He passed up his alma mater so he could try to capitalize on Urban Meyer's successes and make some extra cash. Loyalty has no place in his heart. Therefore, respect for him has no place in mine.

The fact that he went for the money brings me to my point....... Kyle Whittingham stands to receive a bonus of $200,000 if the Utes win on Saturday. His contract stipulates that if the team makes a BCS game, he will receive a bonus of two-hundred freaking thousand dollars. Ugh. That could buy a lot of pants that are WAY too tight. No one wants to see that.

He also gets his car, gas, country club membership, and $25,000 worth of "Friends and Family Entertainment Expenses" paid for. His contract is public record. Read the whole thing here.

So please, please, PLEASE do not let him get this extra pay day Cougs. Don't let him get his pay day that he so desperately wants and is willing to sell his soul to get.

And Church leaders, if he does get his 200k pay day, please refuse his tithing check. I doubt he'll pay it anyway.

That "Tithing" jab was low. (Brace for lightening).

But don't lose any sleep over him passing us up. We should award him a bonus for not coming here. I don't like the guy. I don't like how he composes himself. He's got lose lips - he talks, talks, talks.

I'd take Bronco on the basis of his principles and quiet dignity/demeanor any day, any time, ALL DAY LONG.

Triz said...

It specifies in his contract that he only gets one of the bonuses. So he won't get the 50k for an outright MWC championship as well.....just the BCS one.

And Zach, Bronco's contract is private so his terms and bonuses are unknown. Whit gets 375k/year for speaking engagements and public appearances. Sheesh.

I spent a couple hours once looking at contracts for college coaches.....those guys have it made. The bonuses they get are ridiculous.

My Magic Underwear Brings All the Boys to the Yard said...

What an asshole. I can't believe he would accept money offered to him. I heard Bronco donates all his earnings to charity, and lives off of a small monthly food stipend. He also gets a few pairs of free garments if they go to a bowl game, so he's got that going for him.

Stephen said...

How can you say that money was his motivation if no one knows how much Bronco makes? Maybe he actually took a pay cut by taking the Utah job ?

Stephen, we know he made more than Bronco because when he was negotiating with BYU for the head coaching position he told them Utah was offering him such and such, so they needed to match it. They wouldn't.

Bronco took it. Does Bronco make more than Whitt now? Maybe. But 2 (gonna be 3) straight conference championships will do that.

You are the epitomy of the self-righteous BYU fan. You are the very reason that LDS Ute fans like myself HATE BYU fans. I'm sure you're right about Whittingham not paying his tithing. How could anyone associated with the U be a good member of the church?

Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, Henry B. Eyring, Joseph B. Wirthlin (former football player at the U -- guess he makes your "hate" list), Jon M. Huntsman... the list goes on. I'm sure none of them ever paid tithing either. And they're probably all out drinking and smoking as we speak.

It's cool -- keep judging people, and keep bringing religion into football. Why should you be any different than the rest of Cougar Nation?

Rock said...

Allen, will you give me your mother's name? I'd like to create an achronym out of it. That would be clever, huh?

Allen said...

That's unlikely, considering how "clever" your last remark was.

I love how you didn't respond to anything else I said. The only thing you could dispute is the acronym (which you aparently can't spell).

Chase said...

Allen,
Let me interrupt here.

I think what it boils down to is that this is a heated rivalry and he means business . . . . "them are fighting words" . . . which is what he means. He wants to piss you off and when you respond . . . "Mission Accomplished!"

I agree he should not make judgements about paying tithing . . . I wouldn't go there.

But, he's got the right to say what he wants. It's his blog. This week is WAR. If we can use stupid rhetoric to piss you and others off . . . we can and we will.

Whether you agree or disagree . . . it doesn't matter what you think . . . . unless you are going to do something about it.

You can say what you want.
He can say what he wants.

IT'S CALLED "TRASH" OR "SMACK" TALKING!
It's not fair or civilized, Appropriate or warranted.

IT'S WAR!!

I'm just curious, not trying to mock or anything . . . in reference to the acronym, what exactly is a 'zoob'?

How to catch an idiot Ute:

Set snare by making random "self-righteous" statement in obvious attempt to irritate Ute fans, allow Ute fan to walk in, snare snaps shut, Ute fan bellows in pain, indignation, and outrage at hypocrisy and self-righteousness. Quietly chuckle to oneself and enjoy watching the big dumb animal work himself into a rage.

Allen, you're an idiot. But thank you for being so predictable.

Adam said...

I love how Utes just love to pounce on the "hypocritical," and "judging" labels, only to turn around and throw and extra dose of judgment right back at us, thus making them hypocrites.

"I hate all BYU fans because they're all arrogant and judgmental!"

Gotta love the irony.

Oh, and I also love how Ute fans always make fun of some religious thing thinking it will shock us back into our caves. They think saying something about garments is the silver bullet of smack talk (taking a cue from Rick Majerus).

Really, it just makes them look ignorant and silly.

When all else is lost, they resort to the sexually explicit material. I'm guessing by the deleted comments that some frustrated Ute has already tried that tactic.

Allen said...

Way to back-peddle there "triz".

Look, I'm obviously greatly out-numbered here. But I for one don't buy your BS. You know you crossed the line (as you so often do -- even your cougar buddies agree), yet you insist it was only written to bait ute fans.

Anyway, enjoy the game. I'll be back to gloat on Saturday.

Oh I love rivalry week.

Klassless Kyle:

A former Cougar who allowed his team to stay and celebrate on the field after his win in 2005 in the OT game while Cougar senior blankets were being handed out. Kyle, you own a senior blanket, yet you show no respect by allowing your players to celebrate on the field during the handing out of blankets to the seniors.

Your onside kick against Joe Glenn up 44-0

Also, as a Cougar alum living in SLC, I saw Coach Klassy Kyle give a fireside at the University of Utah institute building. It was supposed to be spiritual, but he took three jabs at BYU during his speech (which I am sure is written in his contract) including one to Jeffrey R Holland.

But then, being the terrible public speaker he is, he allowed Morgan Scalley to be the last speaker at this fireside, because he was much better at the spiritual stuff.

Bronco doesn't need to take jabs at the U EVERY TIME HE GIVES A FIRESIDE, cause he just doesn't need to.

Utes live off Cougars. We are their Superbowl, and this week, they are actually quiet about it because we are the underdogs for the first time since Urban vs Crowton

Edward said...

Adam, people point to your archaic and silly religious belief because they are hilariously stupid. If I say you wear magic protective underwear, have secret code words and handshakes, and live by a ridiculous honor code, it's not smack talk. It's the truth.

And I can't believe you would honestly think that tithing was leading to BYU victories. If the reward for paying tithing is an invitation to the Las Vegas Bowl, you can keep paying and I'll keep my 10%. Meanwhile teams that pay no tithing at all are contending for national championships. Maybe and extra 2 or 3% would have prevented that TCU blowout.

You are fans of a second-rate football team. You will live happier lives when you learn to accept this reality.

Adam said...

Are all religious beliefs and traditions archaic and stupid, or just ours? I want to be clear before I call you an anti-Mormon bigot.

Chase said...

I didn't want to jump in, but, now I must.

I don't care what anyone says, transsubstantiation, sale of indulgences, and groups like opus dei, are not archaic or weird, no matter what anyone says.

Having a majority of your beliefs come, in one way or another, through the catholic church (eh hem, Protestants!) - not weird

Having a majority of that belief being organized and counseled by a pagan (Constantine 321ad - Nicea) - not Weird

Having those weird beliefs jumbled even more (Athanasian Creed - 5xxAD) - not asinine!

144,000 going to heaven - Not weird
Baptising Children - Not Weird
Not needing baptism - not weird
Drinking cyanide laced KOOL AID - not weird
Being Gay, saying opponents are hateful, and then being hateful - not weird

Worship Deity like you vote for president (with out reason or understanding) - priceless!!

Basing your faith in and through men - not absurd

The reasons you think they are archaic and stupid is because you don't understand them - like big words.

You make no attempt to understand them.

You make no attempt to understand anything without your rose colored shades.

Rock said...

Ed, it wasn't the tithing that led to BYU victories. It was the MAGIC that comes about from paying tithing, as well as doing other righteous things. You Utes wouldn't understand.

Yes, magic can be added to underwear, and it can also be added to games (cue 4th & 18).

GO UTES!

Dear Cougar Crazies,

Anonymous, who posted before me, is a douche. I'm certain this is the same douche that posts frequently on Deseretnews.com while trolling BYU articles. (ever notice there is an S-load of comments for BYU articles and like 17 for the utah articles).

Anonymous always uses the tiresome catch phrase "Just sayin' . . . " to finish all of his boring and empty posts. "Just Sayin'" . . . what are you, some stand-in for "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air"?

Please block him or remove his comments.

We all know he want's to be the "Fresh Prince", but he'll always just be "Carlton".

(Oh . . . . . and sorry I pulled out the "D" word.)

Go UTES!!! You are going to hate yourself for dissin' the UTES after Saturday cause we are going to destroy the TDS!!!!!

Chase said...

Here is how pathetic and shallow the tradition (or lack thereof) is at utah.

They hire a coach for two years, who uses the program to advance his own career (stepping stone), he uses a phrase "Team Down South" and it's an instant hit. Everyone uses it.

That's all they got. They don't have any tradition. They don't have any history. It's all superficial.

Have they been to the BCS? Yeah.
Are they 11-0 right now? Yeah.

But that's as far as the roots go. Those are not even roots. They are flowers from blowing seeds that happened, by chance, to land LES North.

We all no what happens to flora with no roots . . . .it withers and is of no profit or use.

Like a news paper article said, "Utes say team's rise to top of MWC has been fairly quiet"

That's odd . . . . wonder why?

(psssst. . . . . no one cares!)

George Washington Wearing His Temple Clothes said...

So, you can say things like, "Ute fans are too busy downloading cheap porn in their parents basement,"(which, as funny as it might have been in 3rd grade, it's still totally made up) but if I point out that you wear magic underpants, I'm an "anti-mormon bigot"?

Chase, you are right, those things are all weird. But the weirdness you see in other religions you fail to see in your own. Pointing out that other people also believe strange and silly things doesn't make your beliefs any less strange or silly.

Keep talking trash though. Talk about how much you hate the U, Ute fans, etc. At the end of the day you are still slaves to a lie. Keep paying that tithing so they can build that billion dollar shopping mall downtown. Keep shaving and going to bed by curfew. Keep being obedient by having babies that you can't afford. Keep cutting the dirty words out of your movies, because that potty language is just so inappropriate! You guys are the coolest, for sure.

Chase said...

Here is the thing about justification. No evidence is not evidence, in and of itself. Do you follow?

All those things I listed . . . not only are they wrong . . I can show you this instant how they contradict everything taught in the GOOD book. Not my books your books - the common ground - the equalizer. (I love the Good book by the way).

You can not do the same. You can't. You think you can. You CAN NOT. You may lie to yourself and say you can; you can't.

Second of all, truly, the defining actions of bigotry or what you just spewed . . . . . you know, the stuff about not affording children, cutting bad words out of movies, etc, this is a generalization.
Is it true? Yes.
In all cases? No.

Therefore, you are making a generalization on a portion of a population and assigning it to the population as a whole. This is bigotry.

And no I don't hate Utah Fans. I do not. I don't hate the football team. I just believe BYU should beat them year in and year out and that most years (>50%) BYU is a better team.

Don't spout off about tithing. Unless you can eMail me an excel sheet to prove your point . . . zip it.

You've got nothing. . . But, I respect your right to be a bigot, free in your speech, and an embellisher of what you call facts, which are just talking points you absorbed from someone less lazy than yourself - but still as ignorant.

Chase said...

Hey Adam and Triz (or whatever the hell your name is), don't you think you guys have crossed the line by provoking such contention? I'm pretty damn sure the Book of Mormon and LDS leaders kind of what to avoid this kind of thing. Or do you purposely get people worked up to the point where they start disparaging what you hold sacred? OK, you provoked some Ute fans, great - mission accomplished. But you're taking this a little too far, agree? Or not?

Ed-Ward said...

The Bible is far from a "good" book. It endorses slavery, sexism, racism, and homophobia. You can always avoid those things by cherry picking, of course. But when you do that all you're left with are a couple of verses about loving your neighbor and being kind, ideas that certainly weren't new at the time (Jesus is just Buddha part II) and aren't unique to christianity. It's an outdated, obsolete book. Any objective reading of it would tell you as much.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8hLbqdrQug&feature=related

Chase said...

You might want to re-think your "it's an old outdated book" concept. By stating that you are implying that at one point it was true and correct. God, through, his prophets, is the author of this book. God is unchangeable - the same yesterday, today, and forever. (Heb 13:8) If you say he can change, you are saying he's not perfect and I don't think you want to go there.

Your perspective is all messed up. People change; God does not. Deal with it. God is not a homo-phobe - he's a sin-ophobe. He does not hate people, he hates sins. Unfortunately, sins and sinners are one in the same in that he that is found with the sin is often punished . . . . (Sodom anyone?).

Therefore, the book is not outdated - you are. YOU better get yourself in order and this is why . . .

Rev 20:12. The dead will be judged by the law which is contained in the books. You too will be judged by what is written in those books - it's the law and you can't hide from it. You can say "I didn't know" but it will not matter. What you think does not matter. What reality is, is what matters. So you and reality need to get some stuff worked out this weekend so your on the right side when the curtain falls.

You present yourself much more confident than you ought to be. Your arguments just don't hold any water, they don't make any sense. They sound like knee-jerk responses, as though they've not been thought out. It's more than that though - it's just not true or correct.

It's not me you need to worry about. You won't be accounting to me.

Now, BYU & Utah are always pretty evenly matched. I hope BYU is the better team. I can't predict because I want to see it played out. If Utah wins, i'll concede. If they steal the game I will not concede.

May the best team win - truly.

I think BYU will beat the Utes because:
(1)BYU has better coaches = more prepared
(2)Has a better offense then the Utah defense
(3) Utes won't be able to get away with 3 bad quarters of play like they have in other important games.

Besides the Utes Blow!

Chase said...

I don't like to compare opponents played, but, to me, Coming from behind to beat Air Force and Winning by 3 against New Mexico is suspect. It doesn't mean they suck, it's just a chink in the armor.

This will not be a home run for utes - as they would love to think.
